I have an acer and I read that it's important to update bios if you want to install Ubuntu.

When I bought the laptop it came with win8 but I've already updated it to win10.

Can I still download the Acer aspire V3-571G bios driver from acer.com? Because it says the driver is for win8, there are no driver choices for win10.

Currently I have bios version 2.15 and I think I'm supposed to have 2.21?

I read that it's important to update bios if you want to install Ubuntu.

Where did you read that? My machine dates from 2007 and I have installed every version of Ubuntu on it since then and I have never updated the BIOS. I have no need to update the BIOS because all the hardware works fine.

Whether you update the BIOS is up to you. You should follow the motherboard manufacturer's instructions. People have been installing Ubuntu on Windows 8 & Windows 10 machines since the day the machine came on the market and I have never seen any recommendation to update the BIOS before trying to install Ubuntu.

I have seen many posts from people who had problems. Some may have had problems that were specific to Acer machines. But updating the BIOS was never offered as a solution. These recommendations still apply when installing Ubuntu on a Windows 8/10 machine.

I did a quick look and per Acer you cannot run Windows 10. Your specific model is not on list.

Some others mention fans do not turn off. And Acer says drivers may not be supported which could be the fan issue.

If you install newer UEFI/BIOS do you have a way to revert to older version?
Generally you want the newest version. But what are reasons for new version UEFI per Acer?

These threads mention Acer issues on UEFI/BIOS versions:
Acer Very latest UEFI/BIOS works, downgrade not required:

Win10 isn't supported on acer aspire V3-571G? I don't understand how that's possible? It's important to upgrade windows.. Acer can't expect us to not update windows?

With the Acer model that I have.. Should I use a win10 or win8 guide for installing Ubuntu on dual boot? Because the computer came with win8 but I'm now using win10

It's more about whether whatever Win you have is installed in UEFI or not, but you are now asking a question unrelated to the title and original topic of this thread, which is about updating BIOS and Windows.

As you are now asking about installing Ubuntu, suggest starting another thread to improve your chances of support with this or any other questions. Good luck. ;)
